Here’s a playlist with some of the music from Pretty Things minus the original score, which included covers of me singing Big Spender and Fever. The soundtrack mixed jazz and blues giants like Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Eartha Kitt and Fats Waller with 70s funk artists Betty Davis and Parliament (as in the funkadelic prime minister George Clinton.)
My friend Sam Spiegel, was the composer for the film. We have a creative, sibling-like relationship and had a lot of fun collaborating on the score, minus a few fights where we had to be separated by our music supervisor, Dawn Soler.
The below clip features a track by Sam over a dance rehearsal with choreographer Jennifer Nairn-Smith. I am in peak meltdown mode and have lost all my curves, too skinny from the stress of my marriage breaking down and the Adderall/weed/Klonopin cocktail I was on.
Enjoy!
