Hello! Another big thank you to all my subscribers who have been along for the ride over the last 12 months. I celebrated the one year anniversary of STARF⭐️CKER last week, which came with the added bonus of being named a “Substack Star” by journalist Emily Dougherty (a STARF⭐️CKER subscriber,) in her lovely feature on me for Cultured Magazine.
Before I get to Sex, Drugs & Rock n’Roll (Part 2)….let’s take a moment to discuss something very unsexy, very un-rock n’ roll: the oligarch funded #girlboss in space marketing moment, which sent Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos’ fiancé, Lauren Sanchez, into space for an 11 minute trip along with her posse, including singer Katy Perry. Perry reportedly made a “space playlist” of songs for their short flight and treated her seat mates to an a cappella rendition of Louis Armstrong’s What A Wonderful World on board. I wonder how Armstrong, the beloved trumpeter and vocalist on whom the FBI kept a file for his civil rights activism, would feel about his tune being used as an anthem for space tourism while Earth literally burns. Perry was quoted post flight saying, "this is all for the benefit of Earth, I wanted to model courage and worthiness and fearlessness."
I consider the Blue Origin flight to be the billionaire version of a sponsored Revolve party. Speaking of influencer trips…
We are in peak Coachella season and although I shudder at the thought of attending again, I had my share of good times at the festival in the past. How could I forget Coachella 2013, when I met 2 Chainz at Jeremy Scott’s annual house party; watched the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who were headlining that year, play Under the Bridge from side stage; or most memorably, smoked a fat blunt as Wu-Tang brought da motherfuckin’ ruckus?

While I would rather eat glass than brave crowds of selfie taking Revolve girls rolling on Molly and the bros that love them (unless, and this is how I would only ever want to experience Burning Man, I could be helicoptered in at dusk and out at dawn,) I will forever love the heady combination of Sex, Drugs & Rock n’ Roll (or Rap, Jazz, RnB and Soul…)
So here is Part 2 of my Sex, Drugs & Rock n’ Roll reading list, for fellow sybarites.
