Don't pack a heavy coat for DC weather, Liz. Winters aren't very cold here anymore!

If you are traveling by train to/from DC, you will definitely see the National Guard standing around Union Station attempting to look intimidating. Consider a Fuck Fascism (or similar) tee shirt to send them a message. Or just give them a one-finger salute!

The Holocaust Museum is a must-see but don’t plan anything else for that day because it will fuck you up emotionally: https://www.ushmm.org/hpto/hpto-eoy-early-25.html

How long are you here? There’s so much to see and do. Don’t stay in Georgetown if you can help it. It’s charming

but boring and far from the museums and there’s no Metro there. But you should at least visit there to see Pamela’s house at 3032 N street NW. Also visit her White Roses painting at the National Gallery of Art! If you come in spring, be sure to see Dumbarton Oaks. The gardens are fabulous, designed by Beatrix Farrand, who also did Hearst’s landscapes at San Simeon. All the Smithsonian museums are fantastic, but my favorite is this one: https://nmaahc.si.edu. It’s an experience! You start in the basement with artifacts from slave ships (you feel like you’re in one) and then work your way upwards through history. At the top floor (among other wonderful things) is George Clinton’s Funkadelic space ship. You do need to sign up for tickets—they do it to regulate the flow of people. All the museums are free though! The Smithsonian American History museum has the First Ladies’ gowns, which might be up your alley. Also Julia Child’s kitchen!
